Graduates / the
serif

I was interested to read an article this morning in the UK design publication 'Design Week' a comment from a lecturer at Dundee University stating that 'the design industry is in no position to leacture on free pitching when its recruitment strategy is based around forcing graduates and other applicants to work for free until a position opens up.' The piece goes on to claim that some of his students have worked for free for up to two years.
This pissed me off. firstly because I just employed a graduate from Dundee University, the forth to join my company in the past five years, and if I'd known that they would work for free I could have saved myself a fortune. God I even paid travel expenses for interviews, not to mention putting up these graduates in four star hotels until they found a place to live. Now I feel really stupid!
But in truth anyone who works for free for two years must be daft, even in these times of credit crunch and shrinking vacancies. What do you think?
